buffalo-waterfrontBuffalo is the second most populous city in the state of New York, after New York City. Buffalo is the seat of Erie County and the principal city of the Buffalo-Niagara Falls metropolitan area (that is the largest in western New York and the largest in upstate New York).

Geography

Buffalo is located in western New York on the eastern shores of Lake Erie and at the head of the Niagara River across from Fort Erie, Ontario. Downtown Buffalo is located 17 miles (27 km) south of Niagara Falls and 59 miles (95 km) southeast of Toronto, Ontario (Canada's largest city).

As of 2010, Buffalo's population is 268,725 people. Since 2000, its population has grown annually at -8.26 percent. The median home cost in Buffalo is $81,280. Home appreciation the last year has been 0.16 percent.

Economy
